Need a new sitcom?

February 6th, 2008 by Jamie

Run out of shows to watch? Can’t wait for the next series of ‘Flight Of The Conchords‘? Or maybe you’ve just Google’d ‘best US sitcom’ or something. You’ve come to the right place, for I can categorically state that ‘Arrested Development‘ is one of the greatest sitcoms ever made. Though I used the term ‘genius’ a few posts back about something different, it’s absolutely true in both cases. I can’t recommend it highly enough. All three series are equally brilliant too! Hurrah!

Oh, and it’s got Jason Bateman, David Cross, Portia De Rossi and Michael Cera in it too, but all the cast are awesome.

Water

There is no current universal human right to water, binding or not, enshrined by the United Nations or any other multilateral body. In November 2002, the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights issued a non-binding comment affirming that access to water was a human right:

the human right to water is indispensable for leading a life in human dignity. It is a prerequisite for the realization of other human rights.

United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights

This principle was reaffirmed at the 3rd and 4th World Water Forums in 2003 and 2006. This marks a departure from the conclusions of the 2nd World Water Forum in The Hague in 2000, which stated that water was a commodity to be bought and sold, not a right.[113] There are calls from many NGOs and politicians to enshrine access to water as a binding human right, and not as a commodity.

Please excuse my language but what the fuck has happened to The Dillinger Escape Plan?

January 28th, 2008 by Jamie

Calculating Infinity is one of the best metal albums ever made. It’s genius. So what the crap is up with this My Chemical BigPants*-esque dirge? It makes me sad. They’ve even got a fucking skateboarder in the video.

*Childish, yeah, but c’mon. Fair.

Good point, well made.

Daring Fireball: Yet Another in the Ongoing Series Wherein I Examine a Piece of Supposedly Serious Apple Analysis From a Major Media Outlet and Dissect Its Inaccuracies, Fabrications, and Exaggerations Point-by-Point, Despite the Fact That No Matter How Egregious the Inaccuracies / Fabrications / Exaggerations, Such Pieces Inevitably Lead to Accusations That I’m Some Sort of Knee-Jerk Shill Who Rails Against Anything ‘Anti-Apple’ Simply for the Sake of Defending Apple, and if I Love Apple So Much Why Don’t I Just Marry Them? (via Geek & Mild

ThinkGeek :: SnūzNLūz - Wifi Donation Alarm Clock ”…everytime you hit the snooze button, the SnūzNLūz will donate a specified amount of your real money to a non-profit you hate. The problem of sleeping in is solved. Brilliant! (via 43 Folders)

This song is mostly in my head at the moment.

Shame about the horrible YouTube compression, but I quite like video too. I’m liking the latest Silverchair album a lot. I didn’t even know they had one ’til recently. Diorama was (is) incredible, and Young Modern is following the same kinda path.

Jose Gonzalez is awesome.

Jose Gonzalez

Hey! The latest Jose Gonzalez album is even better than his first one. This is important and a GOOD THING.

Oh, hi, Ed Banger Records? Yeah, I’m totally ready for SebastiAn’s album, when you get a chance, please. Thanks. The Justice record isn’t quite filling the hole.

Christmas minus X Factor. It’s in our hands.

December 11th, 2007 by Jamie

lucky soul for christmas no 1Thousands of Last.fm users voted for the Lucky Soul song ‘Lips Are Unhappy’ to be the track that battles the winner of the X Factor this December.

It’s real, independent music chosen by Last.fm’s passionate community vs. mass-marketed karaoke nonsense released simply to line Simon Cowell’s pockets (in contrast, all of the profits from the Lucky Soul song will go to War Child).

Strike a blow against sanitized, predictable reality show muzak. Buy ‘Lips Are Unhappy’ for a mere 40p and you can also download an exclusive, unreleased Lucky Soul track (and know that you’re bringing some Christmas cheer to War Child). If you all buy a copy it really WILL happen, and you’ll be helping to break the stranglehold the X-Factor has on our Xmas charts.”
