I’m probably a bit late on this one, but I thought it was funny and I like to share. Start-up Sound by prangstgrup

Apple goes after the ‘pink pound’?

Homoerotic Displays?

As seen on Spark Notes. I’m researching Shakespeare for a job, I’m not really a fan.

Jamie’s Tips for Animators (Part 3 of… plenty)

November 17th, 2007 by Jamie

Here’s two for the price of one (nothing).

After Effects does not automatically keyframe adjustments, so to save yourself some heartache, just remember to hit the stopwatch icon before you start adjusting things. I don’t have a clever way to help you remember to do it, I’m just hoping that by mentioning it I’ll save someone some pain.

Press the stopwatch

This second one is so important, that I’ll probably end up posting it again later. Save your work. All the time. Whatever you are doing, whatever software, just press ‘Save’ (apple+s on the Mac). Do it now. Do it all the time. This was drummed into me by the lovely and talented Joe Bennett at City of Bath College/Bath Spa University many years ago, when he would come into the room we were working and switch off the power to the whole room. We learnt the lesson. Save. Thank you.

Syncing M600i with Mac Address Book

November 11th, 2007 by Jamie

I’ve been struggling with this for at least an hour now, and finally figured out how to get my contacts from my phone (the Sony Ericsson M600i, which doesn’t sync with Macs at present) into my Address Book on my Mac. Hooray! Here’s a step by step for the five of you who might also need this information.

Oh, I should mention, you might need to adapt this if you’ve got Bluetooth on your mac. I don’t, which was half the problem. I’m using the good old-fashioned USB cable.

1. Mac - Install Magnus Nordlander’s ‘SonyEricsson M600i USB File mode enabler‘, which means you can mount the phone’s memorycard on your desktop. This is good not only for the process I’m describing, but also for putting photos, music and video on your phone. Wowee!

2. M600i - Go to Contacts > More > Contact manager > Backup. Do it now. If it won’t let you do this, make sure your phone USB functionality is in Phone Mode (see number 3 if you don’t know how to do this).

3. M600i - Make sure your phone isn’t plugged in to your computer. Go to Control Panel > Connections > USB and change the ‘USB Functionality’ to ‘File Transfer’. Make sure to hit Save.

4. Mac - Plug the phone into the computer. The phone’s memory card should mount on your desktop. Look for other > Backup > Contacts > Contacts.vcf and import this file into your Address Book.

You win! Hooray! Thanks to Keith at newformula.org for pointing me in the right direction.

Jamie’s Tips for Animators (Part 2 of… many)

October 21st, 2007 by Jamie

If you’re going to be doing more than a couple of hours of rotoscoping in your lifetime, buy a graphics tablet. You won’t want to use it exclusively (sometimes a mouse is more precise), but it will be worth it. Get whatever size you can afford. You can always buy a bigger one when you’re a success… I’m sure it’s much harder to be a success with RSI, and a life without that misery is worth at least a couple of hundred quid. Swap between your mouse and pen whenever you begin to feel uncomfortable, and make sure to take a break!

Hey, shameless plug! I’ve started multimedia production company called Super Mega Action Plus. We make cool stuff like videos, websites and other fancy things to make whatever it is you do look as great as it possibly can. Even if you don’t want something made, go have a look at our creations… oh, go on. Thanks!

Deerhoof are awesome.

Deerhoof

Hey, Deerhoof are giving away a free download-only album on their Kill Rock Stars site! It might not stay for long, so make haste! If you haven’t heard Deerhoof before, its probably the best way to find out you like them, and then you can go buy the rest of their stuff.
